Discovery of band setup

the importance of band setup can not be overstated. This post is to explore different band setups and best match between band setups and ammo.

Mansell Luck (https://www.facebook.com/mansellluck) is a slingshot fan from New Zealand. He is also a DANKUNG slingshot collector. Here is his findings.

This is what I found out which loops are best for what size of ammo
1632 best with 8mm steel ball
1745 best with 12mm steel ball

1842 best with 8mm & 9.5mm steel ball but Heavier pull than 2040

2040 best with 9.5mm steel ball

1745 tubes with 10-12mm steel balls

I use 1745 Dankung tubes (traditional, black) with 10-12mm steel balls. I use 4 strands (1 loop on each side of the pouch, attaching to the slingshot 'ears').
These tubes are quite powerful, and they last a lot. They also give ample warning when they are wearing out (when the tubes are degrading they look softer, and the surface becomes irregular, wrinkled). After that, a small tear appears, but it progresses very slowly, it does not snap. I usually replace the tubes when the tear reaches 1/3 of the tube, to avoid issues. Usually the tubes wear first in the middle of the loop, where the rubber rubs the slingshot frame.
I should add that I don’t have much experience with flat bands or other tubes, but I am completely happy with the 1745 tubes.

Looped 2040 & single 1745

These setups I use for 3/8" steel and for M8 hex nuts.
Both works very well.

1745 + 10 - 12mm steel balls

Yup..i did shoot with 1745 with 9.5mm steel balls be4 but the tube was wat too powerful for the size of steels ball than i change to 2040 feel much better, 1745 + 10 - 12mm steel balls + head shot = GG for those pesky Rabbits or Rats.

1745’s

Sometimes I also set them up as a cocktail set, always have a set at the ready to change for some different setup or situation, forgot to add this in first comment.

My band set up

1842 looped with supersure pouch is my choice for shooting 1/2 steel configuration. I have short 33inch draw and 7inch active pull... looking forward 1632 recently ordered.
Thanks for chance to win!

Set Up for BB's

I'm usually shoot only 4.5mm BBs because they cheep and not too dangerous to use in a city. BB are very light so they don't have mass to store energy and only way to get power is to accelerate them as fast as possible, it was a challenge to find fast bands and even harder to find very light but sturdy pouch.
Here what I found to work:
Semi tapered Pure latex .125 Amber tubing works best out of tubing choices, 2040 works barely since they already too heavy for BBs.

But the best choice for speed is tapered flat-bands, I have good results (braking Champlain bottles, piercing can food, killing a rat) with Teraband Black or Blue cut to 20cm length and 2-2.5 cm on one side and tapered to 0.8-1 cm on the other.

As for pouch It was very hard to find thin light leather that wont disintegrate after few shoots, light weighting pouch is essential since it is the biggest factor that will slow down your BB. I come up with a synthetic material that is strong, thin, light and very cheap to make by sandwiching synthetic fabric between two layers of duct tape and then cutting(yes cut all sides since if you just fold tape around fabric the folded edges will develop tears quickly) out needed 1cm wide strips for pouches, I find it helps to use some baby powder on this pouches so they are not sticky.

The last advice To BB shooters; plug converters to flat-bands are great for Dankung slingshots they let you use favorite Dankung slingshot with tubes and makes band changing as quick as tubes but to make your shoots as repeatable as possible try making area where bands attach to fork as thin as possible by folding flat-band into a tube shape

BB Setup..

Very Nice and a Very Different way of making a bands, 6mm BB with this kind of speed would still give a human one hell of a Sting coz i've been shot by BB rifle be4 and i did not like that at all..lolz

1632 is my favorit

I use 1632 (looped) to 6mm steel, soft airgun pellets and up to 8mm steel.
I find this band hold more than 3000 shots.
I have only have one band that snappt, and that was after about 5000 shots.
If I have a little bigger pouch, 10mm steel will be fine up to 15m.

Best regards

1632 + 10mm Steel..

Wow..Really? i never know 1632 can handle 10mm steel ball up to 15m, you are not talking about hunting with it right? Coz i feel 1632 may be a bit weak for 10mm steel ball..

Oh..ok..I was thinking no way

Oh..ok..I was thinking no way 1632 can't carry the 10mm to 15m with nice power, coz as far as i can understand if any one wanted to use 10mm to hunt 2040 are minium or move up to 2040 Cocktail than 1842 or 1842 Cocktail, if still not Satisfied can go 1745 and no 1745 cocktail coz itz Very Very Hard to pull even for my 28-30" short draw.

1632

For cheap and light shooting, i use 1632 tapered with .5 grams 6mm BB's ammo .. the lenght is 4inch plus 2 inch tapered.. it can shoot 250fps to 270fps.

1745

I just love the Dankung bands. It has to be said that I much prefer the Chinese length bands as apposed to the western shooters length.
The only size tubes I have yet to try are the looped 2050's which are on the way to me as we speak.
For me the western shooters tube Lengths are far too long and the pouches far too big and heavy. This leads to hand slap and the need to be selective over which type and weight of ammo to use.
I am currently using 1745 cocktail tubes and all I can say is WOW!
Being shorter than western shooter tubes means I can stretch them to reach their full potential.
Being shorter and the pouches smaller and lighter means no hand slap what so ever.....no matter which ammo I use. I have 8mm, 9.5mm 10mm 12mm steel...12mm, 14mm lead and also 16mm glass marbles. The cocktail bands handle all types with extreme accuracy and a devastating inpack.
Over 2000 rounds in and still on my first set. Really looking forward to getting the 2050 cocktails on my dankung butterfly.
Forget flatbands... I can get through a set of them in less than 50 rounds.
Dankung looped tubes especially the cocktails are unbeatable.

Thank you Dankung.

Wow..1745 Cocktail Tube

Wow Mate..i had to give you 200% respect, coz as for myself i am starting to having hard time pulling loop tube 1745 to my draw @ 28" let let alone 1745 Cocktail and 2050 i would say for 1745 its better to use 10mm minium, other wise 1745 Cocktail can Over Power 8mm & 9.5mm very easy.

Dankung Agile Toucan

Hello guys,

I want to tell you, that I have great fun with my Agile Toucan. I band it up with 1745 tube with 20 cm active band length. This is sufficient power to shoot 10 and 12 mm steal balls. Bamm !!! Hmm, I can't fill in any fotos, they are always to big.

Best regards

FlatCat with double 1632

One of my favourite setup is double Dankung 1632 on my FlatCat.
Double 1632 21 cm active band lenght with 105 cm draw lenght (elongation 500%).
With that setup I can shoot 9.5 mm steel ball with ģreat accuracy and with enough speed to hunting small games with headshot.
